The International Red Brangus Breeders Association Memorial Scholarship was established as a tribute to pioneering Red Brangus Breeders to further the education of young Brangus cattlemen and cattlewomen. The initial funding for the scholarship program was donated in honor of two beloved members of the IRBBA: Mr. Jim Hunt and Ms. Wilma Buffaloe. The families and friends of these great individuals take great pride in honoring their loved ones through the recognition and support of our future leaders and breeders. In just the first three years of the program, twelve scholarships totaling $18,750 have been awarded. In May 2009, the first scholarships were awarded to two highly qualified candidates at the 2009 IRBBA Annual Meeting. These initial award were for $1,000 each. In May 2010, the second set of scholarships was awarded to three fine high school seniors at the 2010 IRBBA Annual Meeting in the amount of $1,250 each. In April 2011, the generosity of the Red Brangus breeders and efforts of the committee raised funds to provide for seven scholarships ranging in amount from $2,250 to $1,500. The recipients included both graduating high school seniors and current college undergraduate students. In 2012, four scholarships were awarded at the IRBBA Annual Meeting. All of these scholarships would not be possible without the generous support of our Red Brangus Breeders. They continually answer the call for funding to help our youth extend their educations and further their futures. In addition to many private donations to the fund, the Scholarship Committee has raised funds through a Semen Silent Acution and the IRBBA Annual Meeting, a rifle raffle and the auction of custom bronze sculptures of Brangus by renowned Texas artist, Payne Lara. To further the goals and sustainability of the Memorial Scholarship the IRBBA has established "Foundation for the Future." This campaign began in April 2012 and will create a sustainable foundation upon which the program will grow and continue to recognize and award young Brangus Breeders

Contribution to the "Foundation for the Future" campaign can be made a number of ways. Below, you will find the different levels of contribution available. If you are interested in donating to the scholarship fund, please contact Tracee Buffaloe at traceebprice@gmail.com .

In 2013, 50 raffle tickets were sold for $100 a piece for a chance to win Buffaloe's Ms. Vincent 225Z. All proceeds of the raffle went to the IRBBA Memorial Scholarship fund. After the raffle, Munoz Cattle Co. had purchased the winning ticket.

In 2012, CX Ms Home Run “Wilma” 503/Y, a June 2011 daughter of CX Home Run 135/P was donated by Cox Excalibur as the “Foundation for the Future” donation female. “Wilma” sold to Bruce Buffaloe for $3,100, which will be donated back to the scholarship fund.

The Jim Hunt Memorial Scholarship recipient is Gregory Matocha, from La Grange, Texas. Greg owns a small registered Red Brangus herd, and he has shown Red Brangus heifers since seventh grade.

Matocha will attend Texas Tech University in the fall, where he will pursue an animal science degree. After graduation, he plans to attend veterinarian school to become a veterinarian and return to the La Grange area and operate a mixed practice veterinarian clinic.

"I am very passionate about what the future has in store for me," Matocha says. "Through various 4-H and FFA projects I have built a close relationship with my local veterinarians. They saw my passion for agriculture and medicine at an early age, and they have always encouraged me to pursue a career in veterinarian medicine. Through helping them at the clinic, going on calls, and managing my own herd at home, I have acquired a skill set that will help me achieve my goals."

"I would like to thank the IRBBA for helping me by granting me a scholarship," Matocha says.

Kevin Marks, Marcos Borges Jr. Memorial Scholarship recipient, is from Brookshire, Texas.

"I participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Calf Scramble in 2016 and won a certificate to purchase a heifer to show in 2017," said Marks. "After researching cattle breeds, I selected and purchased my first Red Brangus."

Marks says he would like to attend the University of Arizona and study animal science after high school.

"Both football and soccer are very important parts of my life," says Marks. "My goal is to be a kicker on the University of Arizona football team. After college, I would like to kick in the NFL and build on my current cattle production program."

Kevin says he has always had a passion for being around and working with animals; he believes having a career raising livestock would satisfy this passion.

"I would like to thank all of the members of the International Red Brangus Breeders Association for being so generous and helpful," Marks says. "I would also like to thank Bruce Buffaloe for mentoring me along the way."
