The J7 Ranch, owned by Don and Mary Helen Jobes, is located five miles south of East Bernard, Texas off FM 2919, one mile west at the end of Powell Point School Road. Don Jobes started the J7 brand ranching around 1955 and has had cattle continuously since then. The present J7 Ranch was purchased in 1994.
With the exception of the first year, these cows have been bred by AI to high quality quarter blood bulls that produced the right kind of Red Brangus calves.
A limited amount of show ring work has been done, but with good results. J7 Ranch had the Grand Champion American Red Brangus female in the 2009 San Antonio Livestock Show.
The J7 Ranch uses the best genetics available in producing cattle suited for the demands of both domestic and international markets. The cow herd consists of some 50 purchased cows of very high quality and 25 half-blood cows used to introduce new and improved genetics into the breeding program. The cattle are marketed through IRBBA-sponsored sales and by private treaty. The mission of J7 Ranch is to develop and produce the kind of cattle the market demands -- healthy, rapid growing, meat producing animals that will do well under all climate conditions.
We offer consistent producing, high performing cattle. Show heifers are for sale at all times.
Mr. Jobes had a notable career in the livestock industry as the Livestock Superintendent for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. One of his unique and significant contributions to the Red Brangus breeding was the introduction of the International Red Brangus Show in Houston, which has developed into one of the premier exhibitions of Red Brangus cattle in the world and highlight for his fellow breeders every year.
