LCox Excalibur Brangus started in 1983, when Don and Gina bought their first Red Brangus cattle. The passion for cattle started many years earlier. Don would spend time as a young boy on the ranch in the summers visiting and helping his grandparents. Don's family also took vacations to a dude ranch in Bandera, Texas called Peaceful Valley for seven years. Don's love for the ranching industry grew at a young age. In fact, this year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the ranch that is now called Cox Excalibur. In 1983, Don started buying out his aunts and uncles to own the original Krejci Ranch that started in 1911. The house that was built in 1911 was the homestead of the Krejci family and Don's mother Viola was actually born in that house. The house is being restored and will remain on the Cox Excalibur Ranch. In 1995, the ranch to the west of the Krejci Ranch was bought and now is the headquarters for Cox Excalibur.

Our mission for 29 years of breeding Red Brangus has been to add proven genetics year after year, while not sacrificing productive traits. CX has been relentless in finding genetic contributors for improvement. Cox Excalibur uses Red Angus, ½ bloods, ¾ bloods, and black Brangus to contribute the genetic improvement.

Working in tandem with his friend and ranch manager, Jose Ramirez, Cox Excalibur has produced many of the herd bulls used by other breeders from at least seven Central and South American countries; as well as, South Africa and Australia.

The CX Advantage Sale is also Cox's vehicle for helping other breeders that use CX genetics. His production partners are invited to sell through this annual sale. This helps new breeders to have a market place without adding this expense to their other startup costs. At the CX Advantage Sale, Cox Excalibur donates the proceeds of one heifer to the Weimar and Columbus FFA chapters. The FFA members serve as ring men and the bidding is fast and furious. Thousands of dollars have been donated through this sale and FFA members have had opportunities that otherwise might have passed them by. The annual CX Advantage Sale is held the 2nd Saturday of October every year. Cox Excalibur's herd is built on a solid reputation of proven genetics.

Cox Excalibur Brangus has added a Black Brangus herd to its well known Red Brangus operation. We feel we will let the customer select Red or Black. We intend on building our Black Brangus herd to be as successful as our Red. Our cattle thrive and survive on grass and for 29 years we have built a herd that will wean a calf on grass with only mineral as a supplement. We do not feed our pasture cattle any grain supplement, only hay and mineral in the winter.

Don has served on the IRBBA Board for 20 years, 3 years as President, and is a Charter Member. He has also served as President of the IBBA and was honored in 2006 as the Breeder of the Year for the International Brangus Breeders Association. Don is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the IBBA.
