Ranch History

The Buffaloe Family has raised cattle on the Gulf Coast of Texas for almost 120 years and registered their brand in Victoria County in 1895. Originally the operation consisted of commercial cattle. In the 1930’s, Ed and Frank Buffaloe began raising Registered Brahman cattle. A little known fact is that for 5 years between 1950 and 1960, a Buffaloe raised Brahman female produced the Grand Champion Brahman bull at the Houston Livestock Show. Gene and Wilma Buffaloe purchased their first Brangus cattle in the 1970’s and their first Red Brangus cattle in 1986.

Today, Buffaloe Cattle Company (BCC) is located on the Texas Gulf Coast of the US, near Victoria, Texas. The Red Brangus herd consists of 60 to 80 mature, producing females and the several of the top Red Brangus bulls in the breed. The senior herd sires servicing the cow herd include three Champion Bulls.  BCC offers bulls, heifers, semen and embryos for sale from the leading genetics in Red Brangus.

Cattle Bloodlines

The foundation of the BCC Red Brangus herd traces back to Flato and Cox genetics. The Buffaloes purchased an Interest in Grand Champion CX bulls, CX Chief Cardinal 847/G, CX Powerman 307/H and CX Home Run 135P to improve their herd. These were the best of the past decade in their opinion. In 2007, BCC made a key acquisition in the two times Show Sire of the year Sureway’s Rocky Street 227N.  Again, in 2009, new genetics were included from a young calf produced by BKC Ranch out of a female raised and sold by BCC. He is BKC Legacy’s Superman 101U, one of the highest performing bulls in Red Brangus. BCC acquired an interest in him and are adding those genetics in their herd as well. BCC sires are still the nucleus of the breeding program, including grand champion bulls BCC Mr. Gene Buffaloe 306R, BCC Sequoia Jack 37K, BCC Hercules 307S1 and BCC Jefe 307X2. In addition to an extensive artificial insemination program, BCC regularly flushes their top producing and award winning females.

Breed and Herd Improvement Plans

Buffaloe Cattle Company has instituted a “Premier Breeder” genetic and performance testing program that will provide their clients with comprehensive information about their cattle. The program includes testing all herd sires and donors for color and genetic molecular value predictions and ultrasound testing of yearlings.

BCC states “We are happy to share, with Red Brangus breeders and our commercial customers, over a century of experience in raising cattle. Call us or come by the ranch any time and we’ll be happy to visit with you and let you see the results of our breeding program."
