The International Red Brangus Breeders Association (IRBBA) honored Tracee Buffaloe-Price at its annual meeting, in April, with the Member of the Year award.

My paternal great-grandfather, Ed, and his brother, Frank, raised registered Brahman cattle, and my paternal grandfather, Gene, had a commercial herd my whole life," Price explained about her family's operation, Buffaloe Cattle Company. "It wasn't until [my grandfather] passed away that my dad, Bruce, and Grandma Wilma really started to get big in the Red Brangus breed." The Buffaloe family has had Red Brangus cattle since 1986. The Buffaloes have had an IRBBA membership since 1994.

IRBBA BREEDER OF THE YEAR TRIPLE J-R CATTLE COMPANY

Jim Gibson and his son, Chip, own and operate Triple J-R Cattle Company in Muldoon, Texas. Chip says after researching different breeds, they purchased their first Red Brangus cattle in 2002. The family joined the International Red Brangus Breeders Association (IRBBA) as Triple J-R Cattle Company that same year.

"Every year we have become more involved in the organization by participating at various levels," says Jim's wife, Kay Gibson. "Jim currently serves on the Board of IRBBA and the Marketing Committee."

Kay serves IRBBA in multiple ways as well. In addition to serving on the Scholarship Committee, she is on the IRBBA Memorial Scholarship Foundation's Board of Directors and contributes to the planning and execution of fundraising events in an effort to further Junior Brangus members' education.

"2015 and 2016 have certainly been good to Triple J-R," says Kay. IRBBA 2015 BREEDER AND MEMBER OF THE YEAR GARY MARKHAM

International Red Brangus Breeders Association (IRBBA)'s 2015 Member and Breeder of the Year was Gary W. Markham alongside Tim Mikolajchak, of Markham Cattle. Markham says he has been raising Red Brangus cattle since about 1994. "We are primarily a purebred Red Brangus breeder," Markham explains, "but we sell our lower-end cattle commercially."

His passion for the cattle business and industry was deeply rooted to his youth, as he was raised in the Texas panhandle in a town called Matador. Markham says his hometown was surrounded by big ranches filled with cattle.

"I bought my first property at Manvel in 1991, and I bought some sale barn calves to put on it," Markham explains, "then I just kept buying property that bordered mine and buying more cows." He says he firmly believes Red Brangus cattle are best for his climate. Markham also says he is happy to have appealing cattle in his pasture.

2014 Member and Breeder of the Year
IRBBA members selected Mr. Marcos Borges of Wharton, Texas as the honored recipient of the "Member of the Year" and "Breeder of the Year" awards at the 2014 IRBBA Annual Meeting in College Station. Established in 2013, these distinctions recognize one member and one breeder who have contributed significantly to the Red Brangus breed and to the International Red Brangus Breeders Association. The honorees have been examples to others through their programs and inspired others through their contributions.

Member of the Year
Marcos has served on the IRBBA Board of Directors since 1997 and has served as President of the association since 2006. His dedication to the association is proven by his recognition as the "Member of the Year." As Director of OB Ranch and owner of MBJ Ranch, Marcos and his family have dedicated their lives to the development and promotion of Red Brangus across the world. "Before our IRBBA Annual Meeting this year, I was commenting to my wife Adriane Borges and Fernanda Linares of OB Ranch about how important and beautiful the IRBBA awards are," Marcos said. "The Red Brangus breed is growing rapidly in many countries around the world, and the IRBBA today is a well-known and respected association across the world."

Breeder of the Year
Marcos represents OB Ranch as Director and owns MBJ Ranch. His contributions to the Red Brangus breed and the cattle industry run generations deep. He is a descendent of the Machado Borges and Lamartine Mendes families, both of which have been integral to the Zebu breeds in Brazil for decades. Having lived in the United States for 20 years, Marcos has worked diligently to disseminate the Nelore breed and its composites throughout the Americas including Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Colombia. "The Borges and Mendes families are fifth generation breeders of registered and commercial cattle and I am honored to continue in the footsteps of my ancestors and to receive such a commendation," Marcos said. "I am sure that my late father and grandfathers are happy to see that we are following their example of integrity, hard work and passion for the genetic improvement of cattle." OB Ranch Texas Connection was started by Uberaba visionaries Ovidio and Paulo Brito. For the past 20 years in the United States, it has helped advocate for and demonstrate the great potential of the Red Brangus and Nelore breeds, allowing them to rank as comparable to European breeds. In fact, Marcos has participated in research studies with Texas A&M University to prove the carcass quality of some Red Brangus and Nelore bloodlines is actually superior to some Angus cattle. Marcos works hard to promote the Red Brangus breed and IRBBA across the nation and world, serving as an advocate for the heritage represented by the breed. "I know that there are many of our breeders and members that deserve such recognition, but my family and I are very happy to receive this honor," Marcos said. "I would like to thank each of our members that voted for us. I will always work hard to merit this important privilege and represent IRBBA with respect and integrity."

Red Brangus junior makes history at 2014 Fort Worth Junior Brangus Show

For the first time in Fort Worth Junior Heifer Show history, a Red Brangus female took home one of the two top honors in the Junior Brangus Show. TRIO's MLS Zamy 175Z2, exhibited by Audrey Acord, an eighth grader from Madisonville, was named Reserve Grand Champion Brangus female in a show where both Red and Black Brangus compete against each other.

"It's special," said Damon Acord, Audrey's father and Red Brangus breeder who is part of TRIO Cattle & Genetics. "I don't know how to explain it."

The heifer, dubbed "Fat Amy," is out of a Wild Fire 175W cow and Lazy 3 Statesman 100S bull. Austin Acord exhibited her dam at the Fort Worth Stock Show in 2011, where she won her division.

"Our goal starting out was to try and get a Red to compete with the Blacks," Damon said. "I still don't know this is real and hope this encourages heifer sales."

The Acords encourage all Red Brangus breeders and junior exhibitors to seize the opportunity to show in Fort Worth, despite the integration between both Brangus breeds.

"Don't be scared," Damon said. "If you've got good cattle, you've got good cattle. You've got to go in head on."

Don Jobes Presented Lifetime Achievement Award

On Saturday, April 27, the International Red Brangus Breeders honored Don Jobes of J7 Ranch with the IRBBA Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the second recipient of this award in IRBBA history.

Jobes worked as Assistant General Manager of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for 31 years until his retirement in 1998.

He began the J7 brand and started ranching in 1955. In 2004, Jobes added Red Brangus genetics to his cattle herd and has produced both show and commercial Red Brangus cattle ever since. His ranch is located five miles south of East Bernard, TX.

The IRBBA Board of Directors and members feel that Mr. Jobes is strongly deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The winning raffle ticket for the 2013 donor female was drawn by Munoz Cattle Co.  The Munoz Family sold back a flush of the female, Buffaloe's Ms. Vincent 225z, which was bought by Charles Atkinson, proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

2013 DONATION HEIFER
Benefiting the IRBBA Scholarship Foundation

The IRBBA Scholarship Foundation is proud to introduce Buffaloe's Ms Vincent 225Z as the 2013 Donation Heifer. Bred and contributed byBuffaloe Cattle Company, the heifer will be raffled at the "Divas in Red" sale during the 2013 IRBBA Annual Meeting, April 27th in College Station, Texas. The tradition of a donation heifer to support the Scholarship Foundation was initiated in 2012 with the first heifer contributed by Cox Excalibur Brangus, selling to Buffaloe Cattle Company.

This year a limited number of tickets will be sold for a chance to own this exciting young female. Only 50 tickets at $100 each will be offered from now until sale date. Participating donors will have one chance to per ticket to win this elite Red Brangus heifer in the raffle.

Buffaloe's Ms Vincent 225Z has a pedigree that includes a "who's who" in Red Brangus genetics. She is sired by Buffaloe's Vincent 07X, a Sureway's Rocky Street 227N son. Rocky Street was the 2007 and 2008 Red Brangus Show Sire of the Year. Vincent's dam, BCC Chief's Squaw 7P was the Grand Champion female in the 2006 Brangus Futurity and Reserve Grand Champion in the 2006 San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Vincent and 225Z boast solid Sureways and CX breeding in their pedigree. Vincent has four grand champions in his three generation maternal pedigree plus Rocky Street. The dam of Buffaloe's Ms Vincent 225Z is a daughter of -C- Mesa and boasts 5 Champions in her pedigree as well as posting a top 5% ranking for IMF. 225Z is a phenotypically attractive, high volume heifer with substantial muscling. Not only will the ultimate winner secure a tremendous prospect, but all of the sponsoring donors will be furthering the education and future of young Red Brangus cattlemen and cattlewomen.

The IRBBA Memorial Scholarship Foundation, through the support of Red Brangus breeders, has awarded over $20,000 since 2009 to the college education of young Red Brangus cattlemen and women.

Tickets and more information are available from the Scholarship Foundation Directors and Committee Members. These include: Tracee Buffaloe Price, Lissa Buffaloe, Kay Gibson, Stacey Pierce, Gary Markham, Darryl McDonald and Allen Goode.
